Question Description Video
How to address short charge and runtime on Roomba.

Your Roomba may be experiencing an issue where the battery is deeply discharged and may need to charge longer than the standard 2.5 hours. (or 6 hours if you have a standard charger)

If you have fully charged your Battery (the Roomba Power light is solid green) and its charging time was short  (less than 20 minutes) and its run time was short (less than 20 minutes) you will need to do the following.

  1. Reset the Roomba charging system. Do this by removing the Battery and holding down the "power" button for at least 5 seconds. Then reinstall the Battery. Click on the video below to learn how to reset the battery on the Roomba.
  2. Plug the Charger into Roomba (avoid using the Home Base® if you have one so as to ensure the Roomba's charging cycle is not interrupted.)
  3. Charge the Battery until the Roomba Power light is solid green and keep the Roomba on the Charger for an additional 72 hours (3 days). Note: Do not interrupt this charging cycle.
  4. In Max mode, run the Roomba for one complete cycle without a Home Base present, to deplete the battery. Keep track of the runtime and if it has improved, repeat steps 3 and 4 a few times. If your Roomba does not have Max mode, run several Clean cycles until Roomba stops and plays the "dead battery" song.
How do I replace Roomba's filter?

To keep Roomba cleaning at peak performance, we recommend you change Roomba's filter every 1-2 months. Here's how:

  1. First remove Roomba's dust bin, and then locate the yellow plastic filter frame that has the upward pointing arrows.
  2. Pull the yellow filter frame away from the dust bin to remove it.
  3. Remove the black filter from the yellow filter frame by unsnapping it from its seated location. Please take notice of the direction the filter comes out as the new filter will go back in the same manner.
  4. Insert new filter into the yellow filter frame ensuring that the black tabs on the filter are pointing down and are on the inside of the yellow filter frame.
  5. Insert the yellow filter frame back into the dust bin and push it tightly to ensure a good seal. Then reinstall the dust bin to the Roomba.
For details on replacing the filter - follow along with the helpful video on the right:
How often do I need to clean Roomba's filter? Yes, Roomba's air filter should be inspected and cleaned of dust and debris every time you empty Roomba's dirt bin. The filter is designed to keep Roomba's powerful vacuum free of dirt and debris, and cleaning the filter will ensure maximum cleaning effectiveness. If you like, you may hand-wash the filter with soap and water-just make sure it dries thoroughly before you replace it in Roomba.

iRobot recommends changing your filters every 1 to 2 months. Caution: If the filter is punctured, replace it immediately. Replacement filters can be purchased online at the iRobot store.
